The Chamber is delighted to be a strategic partner of Bar Douro, the organisers of FESTA, London’s very first Portuguese wine and food festival, on the 24th and 25th June.
If you can’t make it to Portugal this summer to sample its rich and varied wine and food scene, FESTA is the closest you will get to a summer break without getting on a plane.
Tickets can now be purchased here for three separate sessions:
Friday 24th, 5-9pm
Saturday 25th,12-4pm & 5-9pm
The ticket will cost £35 per session – this will include a FESTA branded wine glass and tasting of over 250 wines.
And thanks to the Portuguese Chamber’s strategic partnership with Bar Douro, you can get a special discount on FESTA tickets: just insert the code Movingtoportugal at the checkout.
Taking over East London’s Tobacco Dock, FESTA celebrates everything that is exciting about Portugal right now: hosting 54 of the country’s most pioneering and cutting-edge winemakers; a food court with London’s leading Portuguese restaurants and chefs; artisan products and live music.
Organised by Max Graham, founder of Bar Douro and Sarah Ahmed, the Wine Detective, FESTA will see over 50 of Portugal’s most celebrated winemakers gathered together under one roof with guests being given the unique chance to meet the makers themselves.
Included in their ticket price, guests will be able to taste over 250 wines in a branded take-home Riedel glass. The roll call of producers features Titan of Douro, Quinta das Bágeiras, Hugo Mendes and Quinta das Marias, whose wines are exclusively available at FESTA / Bar Douro, as well as established names on the UK wine scene, including Niepoort, Luis Pato, Soalheiro, Susana Esteban and Filipa Pato & William Wouters.
The perfect accompaniment to FESTA’s unparalleled wine line-up is their food-court, bringing together the best of London’s Portuguese food scene and featuring special menus and dishes from leading restaurants and chefs including Bar Douro, Leandro Carreira of The Sea The Sea, Volta do Mar and Roulote.
Whilst Bar Douro will serve the small plates / petiscos for which they are best known, acclaimed Portuguese chef Leandro Carreira will be sharing recipes from his new book, Portugal – The Cookbook, which explores the country’s vibrant, globally-influenced and highly influential food culture via both classic and contemporary Portuguese recipes. Covent Garden restaurant Volta do Mar – meaning ‘to return from the sea’ – will be offering a menu which celebrates the diversity of Portuguese cuisine and its relationship with South America, Africa and Asia. Also making a reappearance at FESTA will be Roulote, the street-food pop up which launched in Flat Iron Square in 2021 and became renowned for its Portuguese Bifana pork sandwich.
Guests will be treated to live Portuguese music which will form the backdrop to the tasting, including traditional Portuguese guitar and piano recitals. This will be followed by a live performance by Lara Martins and João Menezes’ Trio, taking you on a journey through different styles and genres of Portuguese Music. “Da saudade e outras nostalgias.” A discovery of Portuguese music!
On Friday and Saturday evenings after the wine tasting, Rita Maia, DJ and broadcaster at Giles Peterson Worldwide FM, will draw from her show Migrant Sounds, bringing forward music from the emerging scenes in the African countries of Portuguese language – Angola, Mocambique, Guine Bissau, Sao Tome, Cape Verde as well as Brazil and Portugal.
FESTA will bring Portugal’s dynamic culture to life through its Mercado, a marketplace showcasing iconic Portuguese brands and institutions, sharing their wares and experiences with London and celebrating the country’s rich culture of artisanal produce, craft and design. Visitors can expect to find pasteis de nata, olive oils, charcuteries and cheeses, as well as boutique drinks brands such as Mavem Aguardente, Licor Beirão and Botica Ginjinha. There will be a Super Bock bar – as well as a craft gin and tonic bar which will also serve the much-loved White Port & Tonic.
