Airbnb announces it will collaborate with 20 destinations to attract digital nomads. Lisbon is one of them
Airbnb will collaborate with a select group of 20 destinations around the world in order to make it easier to live and work from anywhere. Lisbon is one of these 20 destinations, joining the Canary Islands, Bali, and the Caribbean, among others. The local accommodation platform will highlight Lisbon among its thriving online community of digital nomads, not only for its climate and geographical location, but also because of the city’s wide range of services, transport connection networks, cultural and leisure offerings and variety of accommodation options.
“In the pandemic’s wake, a new way of combining work life and travel has emerged, with many workers no longer having to be present in their offices full-time. By partnering with destinations such as Lisbon and the Canary Islands, we want to help people enjoy this flexibility and support safe and responsible return travel, while generating new economic opportunities for local communities and distributing talent around the world,” said Mónica Casañas, CEO of Airbnb marketing services.
In the coming months, Airbnb will work closely with each of the 20 destinations to create specialised information hubs to help highlight the best local accommodation for long-term stays, as well as relevant information on entry requirements and tax policies. The company will also collaborate with the destinations concerned on awareness campaigns that promote responsible behaviour among hosts and digital nomads. These hubs are expected to be operational by the end of 2022.
The 20 destinations that are part of this programme range from entire countries to small towns and little-known cities, and were selected based on their interest in attracting digital nomads and their proactive policies for those looking to live and work in a different place.
