A recent study has revealed the best places in Europe to raise a family, and Portugal has come out on top, making moving to Portugal with kids a popular choice, thanks to the increase in remote working, good international schools and an excellent safety record.

Best places to live in Portugal for families: Funchal tops the list

The study focused on 3 main categories in order to find the best places to raise a family: ‘Education’, ‘Health and Safety’, and ‘Leisure and Lifestyle’.

Topping the ranking is Funchal on the island of Madeira, scoring highly in all areas. In Portugal’s best place to live for families, Funchal, the report highlights that the success of this city is “particularly owed to it having the lowest crime rate of all, low air pollution levels and a cheaper cost of living”.

The island of Madeira was also recently voted one of Europe’s most exclusive destinations, as well as being a popular location for digital nomads.

 

Raising a family in Portugal: Lisbon also makes the top 5

Funchal is not the only option if you’re planning on moving to Portugal with kids. Lisbon is the third best city in Europe for raising a family, behind the Italian city of Trieste.
